Public Affairs: Who communicates with the public?
Leadership
Every agency has a public affairs office, which is usually led by an assistant secretary for public affairs.
Communications Director and Press Secretary
The communications director and press secretary craft and transmit the message, goals, and agenda of the agency to the media and public. They serve as the public face of each agency behind the secretary.
Speechwriting
Within the Public Affairs Office are the speechwriters. Their job is to craft and develop speeches and talking points for the Secretary or any other agency official giving a speech, doing media interviews, or participating in a press conference.
